Good idea, druss, and thank you for the sobering calculations.

@Ownad: given recent objections to any more sticky threads at the top of the 'General Adam Discussion' forum [1] (with which I concur), I'd recommend we create another Sub-Forum under 'General ADAM' called 'Cost Delivered, Inc. Taxes, by Country', then move this thread to it:

[1] eg: "We have enough stickie no! lol It takes me a scroll every time to get to regular post cause im on a netbook" from josh4trunks

(I've PMed Ownad to bring this to his attention)

Druss's calculations are very good, but he makes a schoolboy error. These tablets are not going to be shipped until 2011. The VAT rate changes to 20% on January 3 2011.

Therefore, correct charges are (using Druss's exchange rate and not allowing for any discrepancy in pricing when ordering that some users have reported):

    LCD, WiFi:
    £270.09 + £54.02 VAT = £324.11

    LCD, WiFi + 3G
    £295.49 + £59.10 VAT = £354.59

    Pixel Qi + WiFi
    £348.91 + £69.78 VAT = £418.69

Pixel Qi, WiFi, 3G, bells and whistles
    £381.00 + £76.20 VAT = £457.20

I would also echo Druss's word of caution about exchange rates. Firstly, and obviously, they vary. Secondly, your bank/credit card company will not give you the rate that you might find on Google or the BBC Business pages. In general, I recommend adding 5% to allow for the fact that banks will cream a bit of extra profit on the exchange process and that they will also make a charge for a transaction made in a foreign currency (can be as much as 2%). As usual, caveat emptor.

@graybo: Don't know about 'a schoolboy error' – I didn't notice it either, but well done for spotting this.

@druss: Could you please edit your OP to assimilate graybo's figures, so folk fresh to this thread get up-to-date figures?

I've just calculated the price of importing to Spain. Dutycalculator website say that it is duty free and has a VAT rate of 18%.

    LCD, WiFi only: 372€

    LCD, WiFi + 3G: 415€

    Pixel Qi, WiFi only: 480€

    Pixel Qi, WiFi + 3G: 525€

[copied to a new 'Spain' thread from the middle of this UK thread, by dalinian]

Well done graybo, It did cross my mind but some reason used date of purchase not shipping date, the ex rate was the visa rate which all banks use ( i think) you can look it up for an individual day but only applies to visa credit cards, not debit cards. Debit cards the bank decide their own rate and then usually charge you on top!

    Have amended.

Druss - if you place an order with a UK based company before the change and the item is delivered after the change, then the old rate should apply. But because this is VAT charged at the point of entry to the UK, the rate prevailing on the day it flies in will apply.
Best way to avoid bank charges is to keep cash stuffed in the mattress
