I think you need to refresh your USB ports (Windows 7) for PC to recognize AXP port again. I had this problem when a particular USB port was used first (please remember to hold Vol Down button along with Power button for PC to recognize your device) used. I had to unbrick Adam atleast few times when I tried with Beast, EdenX, CMOD ROMs etc....For this I kept on trying various available USB ports in my system.

May be Linux option is better.

    hi Ramchi,

    Thanks for your suggestions.
I don't think it has to do with recognizing the port. In windows XP I tried several USB ports. On two computers. It did not work.

Under UbuntU (root terminal window with command lsusb) Adam does not show up (on any USB port). And I've tried about 50 times, turning adam on/off, with and without Vol Down button along with the power button).

The funny thing is that Windows XP does not find a USB device if I hold Vol Down along with the Power Button. But when I only use the Power Button Windows at least gives some acknowledgement of Adam: Unknown device. This happens on both my pc and laptop. Unfortunately this does not allow me to install the nvidia drivers.

I've emailed Notion Ink, perhaps they have a solution. Leperlord managed to get Adam recognized, so I better keep trying :-)

At notioninkhacks I found a thread on the same problem. Apparently Darkurion also has an Adam that is not recognized as APX device.

Unfortunately there does not yet seem to be a solution yet.

    Thanks!
    Is it enough to
    - start adam with Vol- and power (for about 2 to 5 secs)
    - connect Adam with mini USB to ubuntu pc
    - open root terminal window
    - start lsusb
And did Adam show up then (just like regular USB devices), or did you take additional steps?

Have you tried to reach APX mode after you got your Adam working again?
I'm asking because it could be that something in the APX mode is faulty (hardware?) and that your Adam only connects sometimes, while mine doesn't connect at all. I'll try some more computers and cables hoping that it is a driver or connection problem.

    Update:
After corresponding with Notion Ink support it seems that I can not unbrick Adam. So I've sent Adam to Tactus lab for repair.
Just to let you know, I'm pleased with the way NI handled this problem so far. The correspondence took in total only 8 days during which I received 4 return emails and in all emails they asked some sensible things with which they tried to nail the problem down.
Hopefully the repair goes smooth as well.

Well it's been a few weeks now and I'm still getting the run around from support. They sent a copy of the return policy, and when I said (AGAIN) that I wanted to return the blasted thing I got yet another form letter detailing the unbricking procedure, even though I had already said several times it was working fine.

Before I felt the the device was ok, just not suitable for my needs. I was willing to buy another notion ink product in the future, but after all this I really want nothing more to do with them.

I know the perils of early adoption well (ask me about Betamax, Apple Newton and HD DVD), and went in to this expecting issues, and even expecting that I might lose money, but this is absurd. The device can't do one of the things I bought it for, and I don't want it. I have already replaced it.

I don't know what to do at this point aside from selling it for parts.

    Hi!
    My Adam is back!
    It arrived this weekend.
It took about 5 weeks for the round trip from the Netherlands to Tactus. In the mean time I did not get any info on the status (TNT track and trace never showed that Tactus received my Adam). After a month I started emailing both NI and Tactus. Tactus never responded to my two emails. But NI did after a week: my Adam was repaired and on its way back. Indeed the next day it arrived!

I'm very happy to say that it works again!
I do not know what they did. The series number is the same as before and the screen protector was removed, so perhaps they installed a new PQ screen.
