Why I'm buying the Xoom over Adam

*If this is in the wrong forum please move it*

I'll be honest, I've been following Notion Ink since Summer of last year. I must say, the Adam was (still is), the tablet of my dreams. The hardware was perfect, bar none. Two full USB ports, HDMI, Micro USB, a beautiful curve, a 3.2MP swivel camera, and a Pixel Qi display. I was completely sold. When I saw the Eden UI, and how intuitive it was, I was convinced beyond a reasonable doubt. But, as pre-orders came and went, I noticed that people were having troubles with shipping, trying to find out where their Adam was, and NI support seemed useless to many people. Not only that, but Rohan's blog posts, which are the only way we got (and still get) updates, seemed to linger. Even now, it has been three weeks without an update. I'm sure they are hard at work no doubt at Honeycomb. Anyway, I've also seen tons of complaints of lackluster battery life, and forced closes on Eden, and it seems that most people have installed EdenX. While these problems themselves are things I could deal with, the real killer was the actual launch date. I know NI is a startup, and they have a lot of things to get setup still. But as of now, they are only producing the Adams in batches and pre-orders. We don't know when the next round of ordering will be, or how long it will take to clear customs, ship and then arrive.

In short, I'm buying a Xoom. I've pre-ordered the Wifi version and it should be here next week. I'm okay with this, because I know that once Notion Ink gets all the startup issues figured out, and they begin making large profits, that they can be able to enter the mainstream market, and work on future products. I wish Notion Ink the best of luck, and will be constantly watching the blog and these forums for updates. But for now, I will stick with the Xoom. Because support demands it.

I'd love to hear what you think, and about your experiences with Notion Ink.

Sounds like you both made the right decision. Admittedly, other peoples' experience is going to vary.
    Adam: PixelQi LCD, Wifi + 3G (Ordered Feb-9, 2011; Delivered Mar-30, 2011)
    ROM: Beast 2.1.3
Apps: Too many. I love Market and Amazon...
Screen Protector: Oh how I love thee...

    I agree with you.
The only thing for me to buy an Adam is the PixelQi. And every day I hope that I won't get an defective device, like all of us. The blog updates on Notion Ink sucks... why couldn't Rohan be honest to us and sais "we have 1-2 month delay, then you get it". Before the PO1 delivery, every week there was an blog update. After the first PO1 devices arrived, silence.

If I won't get an Adam, I would buy an iPad. For me, Android 3.0 (and XOOM) isn't as good as it has to be (Android 3 was announced for Summer 2011, but now it's released 4 moths earlier with "XOOM exclusive". WebOS from HP seems much better.

Oh, my experience with NI has been awful, they lie and and mislead their customers over and over, however they have a group of loyal followers/flunkies whom attack those of us that have become frustrated with the process. If NI had been honest with me I would have waited for their product.I ordered Xoom because it comes with honeycomb good hardware and best of all tech support.

I'm hoping to get some extended hands-on with an iPad[i]n[i] so that I can begin to develop some apps for both it and Android. (Very simple apps, of course.) I'm excited about the potential for both, but ultimately I'm happy with Android, quirks and all.

And if I may request a favour? Let's not turn this into another Adam/NI-bashing thread? Otherwise the admins/mods are going to have to buy another DNS for "notioncynics.com."

I'm getting a wifi xoom for honeycomb. It's a solid device from a hardware standpoint, and I really don't care for eden. There's no real point in me getting an adam other than from a price standpoint (which is pretty substantial in itself), but coupled with the quality control issues, a $50 shipping charge, and all to get a 2.2/2.3 device for an unsure upgrade to the OS that I actually care about...I feel a bit safer banking on something I can go to the store and have in my pocket this Sunday.

And for the record, I had a preorder in back in December, and I ended up cancelling it within 3 weeks. I really didint want to deal with their problems...and I do feel that I made the right decision. Hopefully NI can pick it up so they can stay in the game for the future.

sooooo why arent you guys on the moto forums then?

Im not trying to flame, really Im not.. I just wonder why every second day people come around the "notion ink general forums" to discuss why they are getting an xoom.

Good on you for your decisions.. but why is it that we all have to read about it here? just sayin.

I hope you enjoy your unit OP, it sounds like you gave NI a shot at first.. I still think that even without honeycomb yet the xoom ergonomically is not as nice as the adam, but thats just my opinion. maybe it will change once I recieve mine.

Hey, you gave em a chance and they didn't step up.
The xoom is tempting. I'd highly consider a second device if the adam falls through for me.
For the rest of us, we will see how long we can continue to wait for our adam or reach or "jumping ship" point.
