    Adam won't boot

    Well I got my Adam two days ago and have been having nothing but problems with it. It booted fine the first time. I turned it off and tried to turn it back on again and all I got was a black screen. I could see the backlight of the lcd was on, but nothing would show. So I turned it off and tried to boot into recovery. Nothing...

    To get it to do anything I had to use the unbrick through force recovery method. This would install and boot up. But as soon as I turn it off and try to turn it on again I get the exact same thing.

    I also have the standby/sleep issue. As soon as it goes to sleep I try to wake it and nothing happens. I have to hold down the power to get it to boot up again, which as I said above, it will not boot again until I unbrick it in force recovery.

    I emailed Notion Ink the night I got it and still haven't heard back from them 2 days later. But it seems like some sort of hardware issue to me.

    Does it at least show the notion ink screen then goto the blank screen? If so check my thread.

    Very rarely will it show the notion ink splash screen. Just turns on and shows a black screen. I will make a video and post it tonight. Any ideas are welcomed. I've tried everything I can think of...

    Hello,

    Please follow the steps to update your Adam:

    Please install the latest update in the Adam that has been released exclusively for the Standby issue. Please ensure to wipe the user data before installing the update.
    Please follow the below steps to Wipe/RESET the User Data:
    1. First, please turn OFF the Adam and wait for it to turn OFF completely.
    2. Next, while holding down the Volume + button, slide down the Power switch and wait for the Adam to turn ON.
    3. The Adam will turn ON and will go in the Recovery Mode.
    4. Then, navigate to the Wipe Data/Factory Reset option using the Volume button and select it by touching the Option button (above the Back button; third from top).
    4. Now, please navigate to YES and touch the Option button (above the Back button; third from top) to select it. The Adam will start wiping the data and return to the previous menu when finished.
    5. Finally, select the Reboot System Now option by touching the Option button again.
    Please download the ZIP file from the below link in the Computer and follow the below mentioned steps to install the update it in the Adam:
    http://store.notionink.com/downloads/pq/update.zip is for Pixel Qi
    http://store.notionink.com/downloads/au/update.zip is for Normal LCD
    Please copy the ZIP file and paste it onto the root folder of the Internal Memory or the SD Card.
    NOTE: Please ensure to backup your data from the Adam.
    If the ZIP has been copy to the SD Card, please follow the below mentioned steps:
    Please insert the SD Card correctly into the Adam.
    Next, please turn OFF the Adam.
    Then, please Slide the Power button, while holding down the Volume “+” button. The Adam will boot in the Recovery Mode.
    Now, please use the Volume “+” and “-” buttons to scroll through the options and select WIPE USER DATA/RESET using the OPTION touch button (third from the top). This will wipe all the data from the Adam and reset it.
    Then, the Adam will again come back to the Recovery screen. Please navigate to UPDATE FROM SD CARD:EXTERNAL MEMORY and select it using the OPTION touch button. The installation will start immediately. Please wait, until the device reboots in normal mode.
    If the ZIP has been copy to the Internal Memory of the Adam, please follow the below mentioned steps:
    1. Please turn OFF the Adam.
    2. Then, please Slide the Power button, while holding down the Volume “+” button. The Adam will boot in the Recovery Mode.
    3. Now, please use the Volume “+” and “-” buttons to scroll through the options and select WIPE USER DATA/RESET using the OPTION touch button (third from the top). This will wipe all the data from the Adam and reset it.
    4. Now, the Adam will again come back to the Recovery screen. Please navigate to UPDATE FROM SD CARD:INTERNAL MEMORY and select it using the OPTION touch button. The installation will start immediately. Please wait, until the device reboots in normal mode.

    If even after this update the issue persists, please let me know and I will help you further.

    Hi Tina,
    How long does the Reset to factory setting takes? I am currently doing a reset and I see the android icon for the last 30+ min. Can you provide the approximate time it takes to reset to factory settings?
    I am having LCD + wifi only model

    UPDATE: No worries. Resolved. I didn't press the "option" button looks like its android deep sleep. Powered off and did a hard reset. Could reset in couple of minutes.

    Issues: GPS: doesn't fix (0/12). None of the Navigation apps works. Only Osmand knew until I cleared the last cache. Now it doesn't know

    Hi Tina,

    I got a response from Notion Ink support telling me to upgrade as well. The update does seem to have *almost* completely fixed the sleep issue (but it still doesn't work once in a while).

    This update however did not really change the fact that my device still boots to a black screen at random. To help illustrate my problems I've recorded a video.
