I LOVE IT!!!
I ordered PQ/3G. I was getting very nervous that I would regret my purchase after reading some negative reviews through out this forum. I don't regret it one bit. I love the device right now, and will love it even more if/when Honeycomb is operational for it. Ok, to be a little more objective in my initial statement.
First thing I did was do the update. It worked fine. I quickly setup Facebook and played with the adam for about an hour. During this time I found no issues, other than the two finger swipe (switching between panels and app drawer) is a little touchy. I knew this going in and planned on using the clock tap (which worked fine). I then rooted it and switched to EdenX found here I had already been looking at the roms available before I received it, but wanted one where Eden was an option. EdenX works flawlessly so far. I have been playing with the adam for about the last 7 hours now (plugging it in intermittently, not out of requirement, just because I was by a plug).
Only bugs I have found so far:
Calendar
(Prefice: I use Google Calendar and Google Calendar Sync. I create all my appointments in my Outlook 2007 and they sync with my Google calendar. I use my Android platforms just so I can see my appointments if my computer is not with me)
1. When creating an appointment in the Calendar app, if I try to edit the event title after creating the event the Calendar will prompt force close. This error is repeatable every time with different combinations. This is not a huge deal for me as I don't create major appointments on my droid. The app does sync with my Google calendar flawlessly.
2. I can not view other Google calendars. I can see them from my drop-down list, but the events do not show. This may be an android issue as I have seen this problem when trying to sync multiple calendars with my DroidX.
This is just some initial information right now as I am limited on time (have to do the work now that I put off to play with my adam all day). If you have any questions, feel free to ask.
To answer a few questions that I will likely have:
-I have not noticed any blotchiness, I will look carefully for it though later.
-My Google email synced flawlessly in Mail'd without any effort.
-My wifi has connected to my secured home network without a hitch. I also connected to an unsecured (using web authorization) network with no problems at all.
-My SPS in Latitude and Osmand worked just fine.
-I did the first update without fixing my date first and didn't have a problem. But did adjust the date before rooting and switching to EdenX
-The only Force Close issue I have had is with the calendar as noted above.
-I also have not seen anything where my system comes out of standby, or goes into standby without asking me (I don't remember all the details on those errors that some were having, I was going to research further if I had the same problems).
Final note, if you are new to Android and are nervous about rooting and adding roms to your adam, don't be. It is seriously a PIECE OF CAKE. Check out the link above and follow the directions (apply the 2.0.0 first, then the same process for the 2.0.1 to fix the market).
Special thank you to roebeet for providing EdenX!!!
Update (Morning of 2/23)
So far still loving it!
Screen Observations
So, I wanted to try and find the blotchiness. More or less I did. It was not over certain spots, just a general kind of slight un-eveness to the blacks (almost like it was painted on). I can NOT see this in normal applications, I had to try hard to find it. Even after finding it, it is not visible in anything else I am doing. I watched the Elderscrolls V: Skyrim trailer (as it has lots of dark scenes) and could not see the unevenness at all. The screen needs to be full black, with full brightness, and angled just a little bit. It is there, but it is not noticeable at all. I used my adam for easily 10 hours yesterday and never saw it once. Also, when in all black (during the rooting/update process as noted above) I can see some higher lighting around the edges. It is not all from the right side, and it is very subtle and evenly distributed. This is another thing that I jsut don't see at all when I am using the adam, only when I look for it. I noticed it when I turned off all the lights laying in bed and was looking for the blotchiness. The edges just seemed lit.
Eye Strain
Just thought I would note this here. I spent 2.5 hours laying in bed last night with the lights completely off just playing with my (ok ok, out of the gutter) adam. No eye strain or fatigue was experienced.
Market
Market continues to work great, however there are some games that just don't look good blown up. (Wheel of Fortune and Jewels come to mind)
App Issues (update: found the fix to this problem here)
Facebook: I can only run it in panel mode, there is not a full screen alternate. Also, when I query the marketplace for it, it does not exist. Not even the base android version.
Sound Hound: I love this app on my Droid X, but can't find it in the market anywhere.
Backgrounds (EdenX)
Applying a background to Eden is easy enough from the image itself. You can't change it though from the 'home' screen like you can on standard Android. Also, live wallpapers can not be used (that I can find) in Eden. So, I have the Matrix live background for the alternate launchers in EdenX and an image background in the Eden portion. The trick: apply the image first, then the live background. This will keep the image on Eden, but show the live wallpaper on the other two.
EdenX
I just love having EdenX. I love being able to use the adam as it was 'intended' with Eden and the panels, but also be able to switch to a more 'classic' view with my widgets on demand. This is working so great for me right now.
Wierd Glitch
I have no idea if this is a market/EdenX/adam issue, but if it happens to you . . . I downloaded about 10 apps from the market (after already having downloaded a few others earlier). After I did this the icons in the Eden tray were off. The kindle app was listed twice, but when I clicked on one of them, it was really for a different app (the market). After further investigation all the new apps I downloaded were really one icon off. So, if I clicked the 2nd it opened the first, the 3rd opened the 2nd etc. To fix this, all I had to do was switch to the other android view then back to Eden again and they were reset back to normal. Took five seconds to fix, but 10 minutes of other attempts.
Update (Morning 2/25)
I have been quite busy at work so not as much play time as I would have liked. Since the last update, I have probably used it another 8 hours, but about 3 hours of that was reading.
PixelQi Reading Indoors
I spent about 2 hours reading indoors in PixelQi mode (I know it is not really called that, but that is what I like to call it). I actually preferred it over backlit! I was in a coffee shop with decent lighting, but nothing extraordinary. ALSO, I was viewing it on a page with a blue background and white text. Now, maybe that makes a difference and if so, I would like to see a mode where we could switch in ereaders from black on white to white on black. I think the contrast would be even better than the blue. I will test this out today when I head back over there and update this post.
Standby Mode
It finally happened to me. I am not sure if the issue is the same as others, but twice now, I have put the device into standby (while reading) then turned the device back on a few minutes later to find it had been off and I had to go though the boot up process. It was frustrating largely because I was viewing a web page and had to find it again (added to my bookmarks though the next time). The only thing that changed was I removed the cell-standby service that was on the device to increase battery life.
Battery Life
I removed the cell-standby service to increase it. But, I really haven't let the battery run down yet. I just randomly charge it if I am by my charger. Yesterday I started the day at 70%. I used it for about 5 hours throughout the day, charged it for about 30 minutes early in the day, didn't charge it all night last night, and now the battery is spent (7%). This is the first time I have powered on where it told me to connect my charger. Now, here is something I don't understand. When I put the device in standby, the green led light on the side blinks continuously (in a .._.._) pattern. I don't recall it doing that in prior nights and the only thing that has changed was the removal of the cell-standby service and additional app installs. (Edit: I was mistaken. I appears to blink for about 15 seconds after standby, then stops.)
