What Apps will work on Adam ?

Since there's no primary "clearing house" for Android Apps
(like Apples iTunes), how would a potential Adam owner know
what Apps (apart from Notion Ink's) would run on Adam?

Also, are there primary sources for Android Apps or are
they just scattered over the internet?

And, are Apps version specific, eg. does a 2.1 App run on
    a 2.2 Android system ?

And, how does one determine the quality and/or safety of
    and given App?

We're expecting that ADAM will have access to the Android Market in addition to Genesis apps. If so, that would be the "clearing house" that you're referring to.

The Android Market filters the apps available based on the specs of the device and the Android version (see here and here), hiding anything that doesn't seem compatible. Given the size of the screen, the camera, microphone, and backpad, the main filter will probably be the Android version.

Some apps are version specific, but keep in mind that currently there are a lot of devices still running 1.6 and 2.1 out there, so many apps are backward compatible for maximum reach. One can safely assume that even if it takes a while for ADAM to update from 2.2 to 2.3, it will still have access to new apps.

Unlike the curated (read: prison style lock-down) iTunes, the Android Market does have some sketchy apps. But for that reason there's a 24 hrs refund system in case that you're not satisfied.

Most Android apps are available to download either through the Android Market or directly from the developer's website, and they are frequently updated. It is possible to tweak the device security settings to temporarily allow non-Market apps to install. Not all apps work on all devices or versions, but most have reviews from users that say which devices have been tried. As JonnyBoy mentioned, when you purchase a paid app through the Market, the charges can be reversed very quickly, so if the app does NOT work on your device, you can get an instant refund.

Not that I have used them but you may want to look at Appbucket or search it. Also yes should have access to the Market and then yes they maybe all over the internet. In other words there will be no shortage for apps

I may be wrong, but I don't believe the Adam is set to be released with the Android Market initially. If I remember correctly, it was said that it will likely be available when 2.3 or 3.0, which Google has said will be more "tablet friendly" than 2.2, is rolled out to the Adam.

The galaxy tab has Android market access as well, there are a number of requirements a device must satisfy before itīs granted access.... most tablets do not have all the requirements but it may well may be that the Adam has... (NI stated it WILL have market access in some emails)

Any source to cite for this? I believe the market they are talking about it coming with is their Genesis thing. If it were coming with the actual Android Market, that would be a big selling point that they wouldn't be quiet about.

Even if it doesn't have the market, you should still be able to download and sideload apps from a memory card.
