Camera - video chat?

Has anyone put Adam's swivel camera to the test yet? And more specifically, does any video chat software work on the device (Skype? Oovoo? ...?). The cam is one of the main features that got me decided on the Adam so I am hoping this works (and reports on dodgy video playback are getting me worried)

So far I am not impressed with the camera. The quality seems fairly bad for a 3.2MP camera. The auto focus doesn't work that great either in my opinion.

Have you installed the software update? Is it even available yet? It would be interesting if the update improved any of the camera shots.

It's probably a middle-of-the-road quality sensor that will only work anywhere close to well in very well lit environments (like outdoors or with very good indoor lighting).

Most of the VOIP and messenger apps for Android don't support video chat - You could try Fring which is cross-platform and Yahoo Messenger is supposed to supporting video soon (once out of beta). With honeycomb, Google should be adding video to GTalk. Hopefully Skype with video on Android will come at some point in 2011 (again probably alongside the release of Honeycomb).

Thanks for the feedback on the camera and thanks, Robert, for the cue on Fring. As soon I get my Adam, I will check this out and let you know which VOIP app works with video on the Adam (if any, for now).

One of the first "first impressions" posters metioned that he had loaded Skype. I'm not sure which poster it was, but I think it was Ganesha. I don't think he mentioned anything about calling/chatting with it yet, just that he was able to install it..

I would be interested in doing video chats as well, perhaps. In my case I wouldn't be too picky about the camera quality so if it works at all that would be great.

Skype should work, it's just the current Android version doesn't support video chatting.

That's right Android Skype doesn't support video yet
