Compare the screen resolution of Adam v/s. Moto xoom

By no means am I bashing Adam. With that disclaimer I want to ask what people think about Moto Xoom's resolution which looks better on paper. Please note that I am not going into functionality or other aspects of tablets.

As we know Adam has a screen resolution of 1024x600 as compared to Xoom's 1280x800. Is this a limitation of pre-gingerbread / pre-honeycomb releases of Android? (http://www.netbooknews.com/15322/and...hello-tablets/)

How much of a difference will it make on a 10" screen? For someone who does not care about Pixel Qi will this be an important factor?

Having said that, will NI please put me on list for preorder 2?

Has nothing to do with android. Has to do with cost, more pixels = more money. The xoombase model will cost as much as the adam top end model.

The xoom screen will look better under ideal circumstances, however how often is that? The glossy screen on the xoom will reflect a lot of light both indoors and especially outdoors where itll be near impossible to see.

If you think Adams screen is glossy you will really be surprised with Xooms screen. http://www.phonearena.com/news/Motor...nds-on_id15761
However in ideal light conditions it may be good but out doors and where lots of lights are there it should be difficult to take in the screen.
Motorola will however have better resolution and of course better software implementation.

No not too concerned. Xoom's screen does look like a mirror from certain angles. I was just wondering if Honeycomb will allow higher resolution and if NI will make a model with higher res. The higher resolution on Xoom was the only thing that caught my eye. Adam seems a winner overall.

    - maybe they to will supply it with a matte screen protector

Why do people tend to want more pixels with the screen size remaining unchanged at the same time?

I have 1920x1200 pixel on my 17inch Notebook and sometimes have a hard time reading text comfortably, because it`s simply too small while browsing.
In my office i have the same resolution on a 24inch monitor and it`s a blast.
Reading is much easier on the eyes compared to the same resolution on 17inch.

Also with a whole bunch of games going to come for the Tegra2 tablets you will allways get smoother framerates on lower resolutions, because the gpu has to push less of them.
So in this context an adam is more future proof than a Xoom.

So more is not allways better.

    LOVE&PEACE

Well, the ppi of the adam certainly isn't spectacular (~118), but it's far more than good enough for general viewing. The 1024 x 600 display is your typical netbook resolution, and the adam has a screen size typical to that of a netbook, so it's around average in terms of resolution (though some may "average" to not be a good thing).

The pixel density on the xoom is around ~149 ppi, which is significantly better, but due to the squaring effect, this change isn't that noticeable unless you have both devices side by side.

A good example of a high ppi display is the iphone 4 (oh noes, i said it!!! -FLAMESHIELD-), with it's "retina" display, it has a ppi of around 330, which is VERY noticeable. However, one should note that it IS a smaller device, so it's much easier to have a high ppi density. Once again, due to the squaring effect, if a 16:9 device with a 10.1" screen had a ppi of 330, it's resolution would have to be RIDICULOUSLY high; something in the range of 2880 x 1620, the likes of which is completely infeasible.

If you ask me, the whole resolution battle on these tablets is more of a method of one-uping each other in terms of specs. If you want to be a top-of-the-line device, you certainly need to impress the tech geeks by sporting the highest resolution screen available. But in the case of the adam, where we want to mix practicality, usability, and affordability, the slightly lower resolution may very well be a better choice.

I think it's more to do with the fact that Pixel QI came out with that resolution so the Adam adopted it.

I'm sure the Adam 2 will emulate the Xoom with better resolution as soon as the Pixel QI folk whip up a batch of higher resolution screens.

As mentioned earlier, higher resolutions experience diminishing returns after a point because the text gets crazy small, but I think the 1280 x 800 is the perfect resolution for this size in terms of bang for the buck. You get enough resolution that you don't have to chop up pages quite as much and still leave it readable.

I can see and read full size web sites on my Pixel Qi screen just fine without scrolling.
