Dont know, probably its another taxes that other products have.
Well, you "allways" (above 45€ I think) have to pay IVA/VAT, soo its a risk we have to determine if its worth it.

After some (I would say a lot) of digging around the Portuguese Customs' site I found some info that might be useful. The run down of some entries:
- all of the EU follows the same code for duty tax (which is expected as the EU zone is a free trading zone)
- the imported goods have specific codes according to their category that identify the duty they should pay. This is defined in the TARIC
- The EU has a TARIC consultation site on which you can query the duty taxes applied to these categories
- I was unable to find the specific code for a tablet/computer just browsing the categories or even using the text search on the TARIC site. So a doc from the Portuguese Customs on the most bought products on the Internet with their codes proved useful
- Laptop computers (code: 84713000) have 0% duty tax from all countries
- Game consoles seem to have a 95041000 code (although the description doesn't fit too well): 0%
- GPS devices code 8526 91 8090 will have 3.7%
- Digital Cameras (code: 8525803000) have 0%
- Video cameras (code 8525809900) have 14%
So, depending on what it is cataloged as we have those different taxes. Don't know if people can find/know about a more specific code for tablets?
(You can browse the entries above (going to different entries on similar categories))
P.S. On the portuguese site they mention the values above which one should pay duty/VAT. They state €150 for company to individual and €45 for individual to individual. I guess this means that lower values may be exempt even if they are to be taxed according to TARIC. Don't know if VAT is paid only above those values...

Any news/updates on the customs fee, for the tablet, here in Portugal ?
Last time i imported a product from overseas, i called the customs on the % fee , and they told me _ 2,5% of the product value.
So i ordered a couple of microphones (which off course dont fall on the Adam's category) and i ended up paying 25% (!!!) .
So... this time, i'm not taking any chances..
cheers
I thinking (looking at code 8518109590) that it should have been 2,5%. Was the 25% explicitly mentioned somewhere in the receipt (or other paper) from customs/transporter?
Or did you make the calculations based on the final price (where things like the transporters fees for taking into/out of custom are also in)?
Just inquiring in case I need to make any dispute later to customs...
P.S. I got the email to order one now (and I guess I'm taking the chance)

The thing is we don't really have choice here
We have to pay to the delivery man to get our Adam and we will
So the matter is how can we register / declare our Adam ? Is Notion Ink doing this registration or can we ?
Yep, you're right.
I've added a note in my order for the code and to warn me if fees were due... But I'm not holding my hopes high for that to work...
In any case we can always (after the fact) call the duties to check why it was so... (which again...)

Arrived but now I'm the one on ETA to get it
I didnt, receive the email and I dont care, because from what I see on the foruns, there are a lot of problems with the deliverys and this is a "fresh" tablet with some bugs to sort out. I'll wait for things to "cool down" or just go to another tablet.
Good luck!
Just received a phone call from TNT regarding the customs for the Adam.
It seems that the cost will be something like:The lady that called said that tablets don't pay import tax, so nothing else to pay (I hope so). You can decide to go for yourself to customs and save the TNT fee. Don't know how tricky/troublesome it is.
- TNT fees around 56 €
- some form which costs around 9 €
- other thing I didn't get around 2 €
- VAT for the value of the Adam
If you go with TNT will need to send them (by email):
- payment confirmation (seems online bank will do)
- your name
- the address
- copy of "cartão contribuinte"
