Bought the Atrix

And EXTREMELY happy till I encountered this major issue-
SKYPE just doesnt work. The other party hears just a hiss and garbled voice. Looks like almost all VoIP apps are broken on the Atrix. Major problem and no indication that Motorola is planning anything to fix it. I got a softphone app to work when I used an external headphone + mic

Hey mads, how is the fingerprint lock out feature? Also is there any reason why you chose the Atrix over the IPhone?

I will tell u this - you can buy the atrix JUST for that one feature . Unlock is like this - Press power and slide finger (both same button)......works like a charm and maybe 1 in 20 or 30 tries is a failed unlock (because u slide partially, which is fixed by just sliding the finger again) And yes it works only with your finger and you can bypass it anyway with a code (if someone else wants to use phone etc)
BUT Skpye AND Acrobits VoIP just don't work. The other party just hears a hissing sound. This seems to be a problem with ALL atrix phones. No one knows whos at fault. I was doing a back and forth with Acrobits but they havent been able to fix it ...so far!

I currently have an iPhone also and HATE iTunes. Thats the only reason I went for an Android phone and the Atrix in particular! But I feel Android is just as "locked" as the iPhone. I mean you still have to root it if you need to use say Amazon market etc (there is a very long workaround but not worth the pain) . Every time Motorola updates, u have to re-root etc etc.

Is the need to root in order to install the Amazon Market an AT&T restriction? I didn't have to root in order to install it on a Samsung Fascinate on Verizon.

I have to agree with you mads I too hate Itunes..

Yeah ATT has blocked all sideloading

Sideloading is possible using Sideload wonder machine w/o rooting!
