a while back NI kept saying they will update the adam to whatever android os it can support, so gingerbread, honeycomb will prolly get it, but considering how long it takes to make the UI changes in the new SDK can take a while, hell took my phone like 4+ months to get a froyo update, if you rooted your adam and loaded gingerbread, honeycomb etc...you could get the better versions of android sooner but without all the cool NI UI

There has been no official information regarding which version of Android that Adam will ship with. I think it's safe to assume that we will soon find out :)

I believe in a interview Rohan said Android 2.2 but would be upgraded. I'll look for it and post a link if I can find it.

Here is the link. They thought the next version was 3.0 back when the post hit but it is the same.

Hi,

I am currently playing with my Adam which was received in last week. Has anyone come across any of the following?

1) It has Android 2.0. Any idea when can it be updated to Android 3.0 and how?
2) Does the brightness adjust correctly with auto option enabled in display settings when screen protector fixed?
3) Any one loaded google maps on to adam? If so, how?
4) Can Android Market APP be downloaded to external device ‘micro SD card’ or USB other than adam internal memory?
5) I couldn’t open attached word document in the e-mail. Has anyone tried?
6) It worked well at home with home Wi-Fi’. Came out and tried to connect local ‘Wi-Fi’ getting an error “Activity HomeScreen (in application HomeScreen) is not responding” as soon as switched on. And prompting for ‘Frorce close” or “wait”. Tried to re boot. Still the same error and hangs.

I realised that, the ‘Wi-Fi’ is no good when I tried with other mobile device. There I got message as ‘Page Not Found” which is reasonable. Incase of Adam, IT HANGS.

If any one came across the above situation, please reply.

Thanks in advance

Rav

Yes. Notion Ink built an OS with features that offer some functionality expected in Gingerbread/Honeycomb. They built this on 2.0.

No ideas as to when we are getting Honeycomb as Google has decided to stop the release of it. Perhaps to finetune. Notion Ink may be able to work out a release with Google, but I expect not.

2:
Not sure about the brightness control, but the general consensus as been that the automatic setting tends to be a bit darker than most prefer anyway. The cover should not change the sensor operation much.

3: and 4: I believe rooting your device would allow this. I went right to EdenX custom rom which comes bundled with market and Google Apps. As well as some stabilization.

5:
Havn't tried Word. Try copying it out of the email and onto your SD card and try there. You might also have to open OpenOffice first, to activate it.

6:
There are some expected bugs as this really is a pre-retail device. Consider yourself a guinea pig. The very creative developers on this forum have resolved many of those issues ahead of Notion Ink, but I expect NI to improve upon this as they refine their software.

Its probably a waste of resources to modify all of the software UI for an intermediate Google OS upgrade/release.
Best to devote resources to a stronger tablet based OS upgrade.
